Iguazu Falls
We arrived Friday afternoon and changed traveler's checks (at a not so good exchange rate- it is probably better to bring cash and exchange on the street). We spent yesterday and today at the falls. Yesterday, we each took more than one hundred photos. Unfortunately, we don´t have wireless internet and haven´t yet found a computer with a usb port we can use to upload our photos. None of the adapters I have works to charge my laptop either (won´t accept a polarized plug). Today we hiked a trail 3 km in and then 3 km back out and were very tired and ate a huge late lunch at the park restaurant- Hannah is still on siesta as I am typing. Saturday we saw a small caiman, a coati (looks like an ant eater but is related to a raccoon), some fish and many birds and a few butterflies. It is so chilly after the swimsuit weather in Brazil. Today we saw several wild guinea pigs at Iguazu Park. A house nearby to where we are staying has a pet monkey- so cute and interactive- Hannah made a little movie of him playing and she also made a little movie at the Falls Saturday when we visited the Devil´s Throat- a huge group of falls. We booked a very comfy cama suite bus to Buenos Aires leaving here Tuesday and arriving there the next morning. Tomorrow we will shop in Puerto Iguazu and also try to find an internet cafe where we can post a few photos. Until tomorrow...

Airline Change for Flight to Foz do Iguacu
More Varig woes- Andrea went with me to Niteroi this morning so I could purchase new tickets with TAM airline since our Varig flights on Friday were cancelled. The purchase had to be in person since my credit card was not issued in Brazil! Luckily I have a great tour guide to help me get around. Hannah and I will leave Rio around noon on Friday.

Cabo Frio Weekend
We had a wonderful time at Andrea´s cousin Jair´s in Cabo Frio. We visited the beach at Cabo Frio, Buzios, and Arrail do Cabo. Everyone offers so much hospitality and we have eaten so many wonderful homemade Brazilian meals! Hannah got a fright at Arrail do Cabo when she climbed down near the water and saw hundreds of really big roaches- they are used as bait by fishermen. We hope you can view the photos we put on snapfish because we are have an impossible time uploading via modem:(

Who we'll be visiting
Airline Woes and Itinerary
After much anxiety over the current state of Varig we booked new tickets with Continental and will start our long planned journey to Brazil and Argentina on schedule Sunday July 16, 2006. We fly from Newark to Sao Paulo and on to Rio where our friend Regina will meet us. We'll be in and around Rio sightseeing with Regina and then with our friend Andrea until July 28 when we (hopefully) fly Varig from Rio to Foz do Iguacu. We'll spend a few days in Puerto Iguazu at a El Guembe hostel and visit the falls. From there we plan to take a cama bus to Buenos Aires where we'll stay at Sandanzas Cultural Hostel August 2-7. Another bus will take us to Salta where we've booked a 2 day excursion to Las Nubes and Humahuaca and then we'll visit with our friend Jorge and his family in Salta. We'll return to Buenos Aires for our flight home on August 17.
